The Healthy Lifestyle Course (HLTH1010) is a compulsory, one-year course for undergraduates to learn how to maintain a well-balanced and healthy lifestyle that will help them to effectively manage their life, learning and work. 1 Eat ‘primally’ Common sense dictates that the best diet is one based on foods we’ve been eating the longest in terms of our time on this planet. These are the foods that we’ve evolved to eat and are best adapted to. Studies show that a ‘primal’ diet made up of fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds, as well as meat, fish and eggs, is best for weight control and improvement in risk markers for illnesses, such as heart disease and diabetes. This ‘go primal’ food philosophy will enable you to cut through the marketing hype and dietary misinformation, and allow you to make healthy food choices quickly and confidently.
Not only has Roberts seen the problems of obesity first-hand in her family, she knows the benefits of CR better than most. For over 10 years she has been a leading scientist in the Comprehensive Assessment of Long-Term Effects of Reducing Intake of Energy trial, also known as Calerie. Over two years, 218 healthy men and women aged between 21 and 50 years were split into two groups. In one, people were allowed to eat as they normally would (ad libitum), while the other ate 25% less (CR). Both had health checks every six months.
Working in collaboration with the Noaber Foundation’s Healthy Life Alliance (HLA), the Major Alliance believes there is a need to build a sustainable and holistic health care system that is focused on Healthy Living. To achieve this, we have chosen four subthemes; food, housing, work, and leisure. We believe the extent in which someone is living a healthy life is determined by how they behave, what they eat, how they work and finding a balance in their free time. In cooperation with the HLA, the Noaber Foundation and an extensive list of further partners we organise tables which facilitate the process in which the vision, which has been outlined above, is turned into concrete results. This is done by inviting civil society, business and the government to the table.
