Healthy LifeThe Healthy Lifestyles program seeks to address weight-related health problems for children by offering caring providers, family-centered treatment programs, highly trained educators and researchers, and strong community partnerships. We want to help people make the right choices for themselves with regard to their health, availability for work, and productivity. This is no easy matter, given what we face every day – like the ‘impulse-buy’ sweets displayed at the supermarket checkout,” says Peter van Dijken, managing director of the Healthy Living unit. TNO, together with government authorities, knowledge institutes and companies, is developing technological and social innovations that promote good health and work availability, and which therefore lead to a healthy, vigorous, and productive population – as well as lowering national healthcare costs and increasing economic growth.

Choose white meat. Cut out red meat. Red meat has been repeatedly established to increase colon cancer risk. 8 9 Cut out red meat (or at the very least, limit your consumption). Substitute red meat with white meat such as chicken and fish. Increase your fish intake which seems protective against cancer. Fish also has healthy fats, a large source of omega-3 fatty acids, protein, and vitamin D.

There is no healthy level of smoking, it harms people of all ages. Scientific evidence shows that if you smoke you face much higher risks of death and or illness from many different cancers, heart disease, stroke, atherosclerosis, emphysema and other respiratory diseases, pregnancy complications and many more conditions. Those who smoke are also less physically fit and have more breathing problems.

Working in collaboration with the Noaber Foundation’s Healthy Life Alliance (HLA), the Major Alliance believes there is a need to build a sustainable and holistic health care system that is focused on Healthy Living. To achieve this, we have chosen four subthemes; food, housing, work, and leisure. We believe the extent in which someone is living a healthy life is determined by how they behave, what they eat, how they work and finding a balance in their free time. In cooperation with the HLA, the Noaber Foundation and an extensive list of further partners we organise tables which facilitate the process in which the vision, which has been outlined above, is turned into concrete results. This is done by inviting civil society, business and the government to the table.

For both males and females at age 65, the absolute increases in life expectancy have been greater than the absolute increase in healthy life expectancy and as a consequence, there has been an increase in the number of years lived in poor health. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day because it feeds your body and mind with the necessary nutrients and energy to function throughout the day. Eating breakfast regularly will also help keep weight off because it gets your metabolism going.
